A lot of times as Internet marketing newbies enter into online marketing, one of the things they want to know is what type of traffic generation method will get them the most bang for their buck, or what will give them the most quality subscribers. That's actually a tricky question since each traffic method is unique and has its own set of circumstances.
But let's say that 'all things are equal' and we can answer this question based on only the traffic generation method, and not all the other circumstances. Without a doubt, content marketing produces the best quality subscribers.
And by content marketing, I'm referring to article marketing, blogging, video marketing or any other type of marketing where traffic is generated AFTER people read the content someone created. Why? Because when people take the time to read and/or absorb your content first, they are more likely to like and trust you when they visit your website and opt-in to your list versus if they came from a pay per click campaign.
You see, when people absorb your content, they are getting a feel for who you are, what you're about, and most importantly people find out if you know what you're talking about and if you can help solve their problems. When people read an article of yours, they determine if they like your style and flow.
If they do, you're more likely to get them to visit your website and become a subscriber. When people watch a video of yours, they can see if you are confident in the video and if you are real or fake.
If you're fake, you'll never see them again. When people read a little ad on the side of Google or Facebook, they don't have a clue if the person on the next page can solve their problem.
Plus, how much can you really help someone when you're limited to a few words on an ad? Not much. Another traffic generation method that is great is solo ads, because you're getting a high-quality personal referral from someone who already has done the work to build a relationship with their list.
When someone you know personally refers something to you, you tend to listen with an open mind. The downside to content marketing is that it takes time to create the content and to get it out for the world to see.
However, it's a compound effect. If you can put out just 1 piece of content per day for a year, you'll have over 365 pieces of content online that you never have to create again, and you'll get leads forever without doing anymore work.
With something like pay per click or email marketing, once you stop paying for clicks or once the email goes out, you won't get anymore traffic than what you already received.
