As citizens of the world, especially a world that has seen hardship after hardship, we are well acquainted with the concept of humanitarian aid.
There are many organizations that are run worldwide that provide relief aid to people in need of it and they do so very effectively. In a world that is constantly struck by disasters and wars, there is no dearth of people who want to give back to the community and help in some way.
However, this article talks about student run relief organizations and their importance. These organizations exist in small sizes and are student controlled and they are necessary in shaping a compassionate future of this world.
The human nature is such that we will fight till death; the survival instinct has proven to be the primary and most intense need in living species. It is the survival instinct that has established a balanced food chain and it was the instinct on which evolution worked, along with other factors of course.
But at the heart of our existence, we have some innate fears and tendencies. Researchers believe that these tendencies stem from generations of survivors and a basic survival instinct that is common to any living specie whose purpose is to reproduce and further his life by passing it on to others.
The misconception here is that this instinct is purely animalistic and existed in harsher times; an innate fear of snakes is also fueled by our survival instinct in this very day and age. When disaster strikes, especially in today’s world, our instincts ignite the same way as they used to before.
Due to recent climatic changes and developments, the frequency and the intensity of natural disasters has increased by an astonishing ratio. Every year, countries around the world experience some form of natural disasters, internal displacement, civil emergency situations and even mock war scenarios.
In such situations, the first concern to ensure the survival of the victims, decreasing collateral damage to property, rehabilitating the population and restoring all survivors to their full mental capacity and well-being.  These are a standard set of procedures that not only apply to natural disasters but also everyday emergency situations. An interesting trend to note here is that many students have been participating and helping out in difficult times.
Many of us are not aware of this but there are many active and efficiently run student organizations that provide effective care and relief in cases of emergency. Much like student councils, students that run these committees have full autonomy over the administration, the distribution and the purchase of the relief items.
A relief supplier is the alternative name given to such efforts. Another area that they are trained in is providing psychological help to the victims of any accident.
The intensity of the accidents can vary from minor injuries to mass school disasters to suicide attempts, etc. In the bigger picture, organizations that provide relief supplies are humanitarian in nature and help the victims of natural disasters, wars and displacement.
The reason why student run organizations or relief supplier need to be promoted is because it engages the students as responsible citizens of the world mobilizes them and prepares them to deal with emergencies in a more effective manner. Also, such organizations instill a humanitarian sentiment in modern citizens and encourage healthy individuals instead of isolated units.
Because the world has become too harsh a place, it is imperative that we educate our youth properly and instill in them this sense of achievement, responsibility and care by encouraging community service, volunteer work, relief work, etc. Only then can the world boast of housing responsible, compassionate citizens that care about the global population.
