Pet Adoption Story: Brittany and Kayloni
Today we’re meeting Brittany and her cat Kayloni to discover their unique pet adoption story.
Brittany made a decision to own a cat and when she met Kayloni and discovered its past she knew that this decision was right. Here’s their story...
I had just come back home from an extremely long but much needed vacation. I had gone to Billings, Montana to visit my dad and a few other family members of choice.
I had gotten everything put back in its respective place and I had gone outside onto my balcony to take a breather. I had started thinking to myself that I was tired of being alone and depressed all of the time.
At that point, I had decided to go to the store to get the things that I needed and my sister and I had walked by the pet section and I had just stopped. “What is it?” She asked.
I hadn’t replied yet but I had started to walk down the aisle where all of the cat stuff was. I turned and looked at her and said, “I want a cat…” She looked at me for a few minutes and asked the basic questions.
Can I afford it? Can I get it all it needs? Can I give it all the attention and love it requires? I knew the answer to all of these was yes and even better, I had all of the money to do it right at that moment. Right then, she said “Okay… So what’s the hold up?” “Get a cat.
It might actually help you out in the long run and you would be helping it get a home so it sounds like a win, win situation.” I paused a moment and then asked her “Do I really want to get all of the stuff here though? I mean we can just go to Petco and get it there too.” We stared at each other for a moment and then went to the check-out line and got the groceries and stuff we had picked up for the house. Then we drove off to Petco.
I went straight for the cat stuff and got the stuff I needed for a cat. A litterbox, litter, a food bowl, water fountain, and a mat to put them on, and a mat for the litterbox.
From there we went to the Dumb Friends League and I had gone off to their cat area. There were a few other people in there and I had been looking at a couple of the cats that had caught my attention.
I overheard a couple people talking about this cat that was hiding in a corner like she was scared and how no one was going to adopt her and out of curiosity I walked up to the plexi-glass window and she looked right at me and meowed at me. I just replied with “Hi sweet baby kitty” she looked so scared and alone just like I had felt on a daily basis.
All of the sudden, she came up to the window and head butted it and meowed at me more. Like she had wanted me to pet her, and I definitely wanted to.
I turned around and ran to go get a person and came back to be put in a room to meet her. The guy put her down and she bolted under a chair and I sat down and she looked at me and then came out and jumped up in my lap and started purring so loudly.
I picked her up and went to the door and called the guy over and said that I had wanted her. They told me that she had been a show cat and that her owner had surrendered her because another cat attacked her and bit a chunk of her ear off and said that he did not want her anymore because she would be docked for it on the show.
I had a horrified look on my face and I looked down at her and said, “Never again…” We went through the paperwork and everything to get her to be my sweet kitty. The whole time my sister had been sitting in the lobby waiting and when I walked over with a cat on a box she giggled and we left.
I reminded her that we had to go back to Petco and get her food. So we went back and I traded her plain bowl for a bowl that had “Princess” plastered on the side. I also went and got her a cute little collar with a brand new name tag on it that at that moment I had decided her name was going to be Kayloni.
Three years later Kayloni and I are still attached at the hip. Well… More like the ankle because she’s a cat and they aren’t that big to begin with.
However, she is five now and very cuddly and friendly and knows that I’m her forever home and that wherever I go, she goes to. We are a package deal.
