Fashion Trends for Summer 2020

Any place you live, whatever the climate, eventually in the year you'll have to go after a coat.
Regardless of when you've purchased your piece, even things planned and delivered now draw style motivation from earlier many years. In 2020, basically anything goes, and various styles are continually coming all through design.
With regards to vintage apparel, you can't disregard the historical backdrop of vintage jackets, and how these have formed our closets throughout the long term. We'll go during that time from the 1950s to 2020 and investigate the most famous vintage coat patterns and styles for each.
Wherever you live, whatever the weather, at some point in the year you’ll need to reach for a jacket. No matter when you’ve bought your piece, even items designed and produced now draw fashion inspiration from previous decades.
In 2020, pretty much anything goes, and different styles are constantly coming in and out of fashion. When it comes to vintage clothing, you can’t ignore the history of vintage jackets, and how these have shaped our wardrobes over the years.
We’ll run through the decades from the 1950s to 2020 and take a look at the most popular vintage jacket trends and styles for each.   1950s – The Blazer Although it made its debut in Vogue in June 1893, the blazer had its first major revival in the 1950s.
This style of jacket was initially designed to be worn by rowers at Oxford and Cambridge. The blazer soon became part of a gentleman’s attire outside of rowing, where owning one signalled status and prestige.
These days anyone can rock a blazer, and it’s a great item to have on hand to finish a preppy look.   1960s – The Bomber Mods and rockers were two youth subcultures at war with one another, dominating the social scene in Britain in the early-mid 1960s.
Both groups had distinct looks, with rockers opting for practical leather biker jackets whereas mods wore bomber jackets. Brands like Fred Perry were beloved by the mods, but the bomber trend could also be seen across the pond, where baseball and varsity jackets were super popular with high school and college students in the US.
1970s – The Penny Lane The decade of free love saw many new and exciting fashion trends emerge. From corduroy to suede, the 70s was possibly one of the coolest decades for fashion.
One of the most popular jacket styles from this time would have been a Sherpa or Shearling-lined jacket in a gorgeous russet colour. Pop one on and you’ll be channelling your inner Penny Lane in no time.    1980s – The Denim First created in the US circa 1880 by denim godfather Levi Strauss, denim jackets became a particular crowd-pleaser with women in the 1980s.
Shorter, cropped and more fitted styles were becoming widely available for a more feminine look. But there were also many options available for a more oversized, baggy fit which we’ve also come to associate the 80s with.
Dyes like acid wash were also incredibly trendy during this time, as well as customising with studs and embroidery. 1990s – The Windbreaker Sports jackets and windbreakers were all the rage in the 90s.
These retro jackets are making a comeback now and for very good reason – they’re lightweight, easy to wear and can be paired with anything, not to mention the range of colours and patterns that they come in too!   2000s – The Leather PVC jackets had a moment in the 2000s, but the leather jacket definitely had the upper hand when it came to longevity. Dubbed the “uniform of 2010”, you can finish off a simple look of a T-shirt and skinny jeans with one of these bad boys.
This should be a staple in everybody’s wardrobe for its versatility and functionality. The leather jacket has the unique ability to be chic yet casual, great for dressing up or down any outfit.
2010s – The Puffer The last decade has seen a whole range of jackets come back into fashion, with so many of these popular trends revolving around the ability to be functional and practical as well as cool and stylish. Waxed jackets by brands like Barbour were hugely popular during this time.
But probably one of the most common styles from this period is the puffer jacket, particularly important if you want to be cosy in winter but still look your best.   2020s – ? As we head into the new decade, a world of exciting new possibilities awaits us and our wardrobes.
Who knows what will be the top trends in the next ten years, but we can’t wait to find out. Our favourite jacket styles from 2020 are belted jackets, capes and fringed jackets and we’re looking forward to seeing new trends and styles as they emerge.
