Since the beginning of the 21st century, the development of modern science and technology as well as modern industries has made superhard abrasive materials play an even more important role in various fields. Diamond is developing in the direction of coarse particle and nano diamond.
The diameter of the gem-grade diamond is usually longer than 3mm or 5mm, and its weight is heavier than 0.5ct. Those lighter than 0.5ct can be used in industry cutting.
During the most recent 20 years, especially the recent decade, gem-grade diamond synthetic technology has achieved significant progress. Since foreign companies started early, now they have entered the industrial production period.
The global major diamond producers have formed a monopoly. Domestic companies mainly stay in an experimental period due to outdated technology.
Generally speaking, there are two developing trend for gem-grade diamond: product structure becomes more reasonable and there is an increasing demand for high-end product. Nano material is one of the most promising abrasive materials in the 21st century and has advantages in many aspects.
It has high hardness, high abrasive resistance, high corrosion resistance, good chemical activity, and high surface activity. Nano diamond is widely used in composite deposite, lubricate, seal, high strength resin, and rubber industries due to its dual nature.
Nano diamond also symbolizes a new height in the superhard abrasive materials industry. CVD abrasive material is the basis of middle-and-high end diamond products. Its application includes precision cutting, geological drilling, and semiconductor industry.
With the advancement of CVD diamond relevant science and technology, its application foreground and potential market is becoming wider and wider. In the future more companies will play a part in CVD abrasive material technology research and industrial promotion.
