How to Paint on Canvas?

Painting on canvas is a hard task and need proper experience for such task.
A professional painter can do this perfectly but the beginners can also do this if they have proper knowledge. Painting is therapeutic and it is one way of relieving your stress.
However painting is a bit tricky and hard for a beginner. If you are planning to make painting as a hobby or source of income, then master the art with the following tips.
First is deciding on the canvas that you opt to use. There are many types of canvases available in bookstores such as canvas mats, canvas boards or stretch canvas.
Canvas is made of linen and it is more durable than cotton canvas.  If you are just starting, choose the small canvas and don’t forget to use an easel for easy movement. Second, choose the medium that you are going to use.
Acrylic paints are best for beginners because it does not smear or smudge compared to watercolor paints. Acrylic dry easily and easy to manage especially if there are some corrections.
If you have a color wheel, it is easy for you to blend colors. Some artists prefer to use oil paints because of its shelf life.
Oil paints needs long period of time for drying. Third, choose the best paint brush that will fit the canvas.
Brush comes in different sizes and brands. Expensive brush lasts longer than cheap brush.
Thin brushes are ideal for details and minor corrections. Thick brushes are used for backgrounds.  Please use tote brush to avoid smearing your paint or you can use a mug or can to hold your brush.
Fourth, decide on the subject of your painting whether it is a landscape, seascape, cityscape, still-life, abstract, or the like. Remember that if you have reached a decision on the type and technique you are going to use, you can easily start your painting and your mind is free from doubts.
Before you start blending your colors, do experiment your brush so you will know each stroke and how it works on your canvas. Fifth, as a painter you have to avoid using pencil on canvas because it is hard to erase out the pencil marks.  Paint first those prominent dark colors because you do not have to make some details in these areas.  If you are not contented in blocking dominant areas then do try painting from left to right or top to bottom.
You can also try starting your painting from the details before going to the background. But most painters start with the background before finishing with the details to avoid smudging.
If you cannot avoid using pencil, draw on a piece of paper and etch it on the canvas. Lastly, let your paint dry.
Varnish it to have long-lasting effect and to appear it glossy. Varnish will seal your paint so that you won’t need a glass frame.
