Traditional offline mailing lists are used by businesses and service providers to send promotional or marketing material to potential customers through the postal system such as Royal Mail if you are based in the United Kingdom.   Though used less frequently these days due to the huge rise and popularity of the internet, using mailing lists to market your business is still very effective and can still generate lots of new customers even in this modern all electronic day and age.
All it takes to make sales is contact with a customer therefore it does not matter what method you use just as long as you are making people aware of your business or services.   If you want to use a mailing list then firstly you’ll need two obvious things, names and addresses which are surprisingly hard to get hold of on a large scale, it’s not as simple as searching on the internet.
One way of building up a mailing list is keeping all previous customer information and compiling it into your own mailing list. This method is quite slow and can take years to build a worth while mailing list, the other easier and more efficient option is to use an agent’s mailing list, this will cost money but in the short term and long term it works out much better for your profitability.
  The most powerful resource a business has to use to market is word of mouth, a well made and effective marketing letter give get customers talking and with a letter you have something tangible that people can pass onto other people unlike emails which are limited to only one person’s inbox and means span of awareness is very limited.           With faceless businesses online as rife as they are, the relationship between customer and business is becoming less and less personal every year with text instead of talk becoming the business norm. This in itself creates a huge opportunity as customers still want personal links with who they buy from especially repeat customers.
By using an offline mailing list, potential customers will receive a personal letter which you could incorporate personal touches into like the customer’s name or favourite colour if you know it.   Remember to use a friendly and chatty style because no one wants to read a letter from a business that sounds like it’s been composed by a robot.
Also if you talk like a machine then customers will just think of your letter as spam and this could possibly lead to an angry reaction through complaints or ‘blacklisting’ your business. This isn’t good for your reputation at all and will lead to customers using word of mouth negatively.
