Working at an oil and gas rig opens the workers up to several workplace hazards.
This is why safety classes are often a requirement before these trainees are allowed to receive their certifications. They need to be aware of what and what not to do while at an oil rig before they are cleared to work in one.
Otherwise, that’s just exposing the people there to the potential danger to everyone. Part of that training is also knowing what and what not to bring at an oil rig, as certain items can cause accidents on the site.

Electronic gadgets and other spark-inducing items It’s a rule for oil and gas personnel to not bring their electronic gadgets such as cellphones and cameras outside of their sleeping quarters. This is because usage of such in an environment with flammable elements can cause fires and explosions.
Even when taking photos for documentation, for example, “explosion-proof” gadgets are used to ensure safety. Of course, this also extends to other spark-inducing belongings, such as lighters or candles.
  2. Flammable substances Bringing items with flammable properties and chemicals is also a no-no.
This includes known flammable substances such as aerosols, acetone, kerosene, denatured alcohol, and more. Remember, you’re already in an oil rig with a whole workplace full of combustibles.
Don’t add to it more by bringing your own, thereby increasing the risk of danger.   3.
Obstructive belongings While these things don’t necessarily cause explosions or fires the way the first two items do, having belongings that can easily impede the smoothness of operations is still a huge risk. For example, leaving your backpack lying around can cause a rushing colleague to trip over it, hurting themselves or others in the process.
If you feel that something is unnecessary and will only be left messily around the workplace, better to not bring it at all. And even with your essentials, don’t leave them unattended in case you misplace them or if it unintentionally causes harm.
  As a future oil and gas worker, it is your responsibility to make sure the site is a safe place to work. This is to reduce the chance of danger so operations can continue.
The industry is quite an important one to the economy and to everyday life. A delay caused by accidents can be detrimental to many.    By avoiding bringing certain dangerous items, you can potentially lessen the risks by a huge amount.
