Act. Speak.
Living green can be summed up in these three words. Greening up your life isnt just about changing your light bulbs.
Its how you think, what actions you take, and who you influence. Living green is synonymous with health; therefore, the green choices you make will result in a healthier life.
And, most often, you will save money. First you must think and consider new options. Then you must decide to act on them.
Finally, you speak about your choices and lead by example. THINK Things to think about: buy less plastic (because it is one of the worst things for the planet); use your energy resources intelligently (CFL light bulbs, thermostat timers, power strips, low flow sink filters, etc.); use organic cleaners; bring plants into your home (each plant can filter up to 900 harmful toxins found in household cleaners, plastic, carpet, etc.); use energy efficient appliances; xeriscaping your lawn, etc.
ACT Your actions are powerful what you buy (new or used), where you buy it (fair trade, local producer or huge retail chain), what you refuse to buy (chemical laden cleaners, heavily packaged items), and how you buy (reusable bags vs. plastic bags).
Your actions and the power of your dollar have an impact, whether youre buying a bar of soap or a house. Think of what youre really supporting next time you buy something.
SPEAK Use your voice, your actions and your vote to support green initiatives. Suggest your workplace switch to filtered water instead of bottled water (each liter of bottled water takes approximately 7 gallons of water to produce), use a travel mug when refilling at the coffee shop, buy plants as birthday gifts, vote for a candidate or cause who protects our environment, show your kids how to recycle, support a beach clean-up.
Greening up your life is a way of living. If you are willing to think, willing to act and willing to speak, you can make huge contributions simply by being aware of your choices and your power.
And you can save money by doing so. Its easy to be green; you just have to make a little effort.
